Unintended Consequences and Retreatment in the Anterior Maxillary Esthetic Zone
November 13, 2013
Description:

Comprehensive pre-treatment esthetic, occlusal, and periodontal assessment is critical to select and design an optimal implant prosthetic restoration. This presentation will cover interdisciplinary considerations for restoring both single and partially edentulous sites with dental implants in the anterior maxillary esthetic zone.

Principles of smile design as it relates to tooth proportions, gingival contours and edentulous ridge form will be discussed, along with interdisciplinary treatment strategies to manage implant site deficiencies in interdental width, bone and soft tissues.

Cases presented will highlight fixed cemented and screw-retained implant restorations, pre-prosthetic site management with orthodontics, bone regeneration, soft tissue augmentation and a variety of provisional restoration options throughout each phase of treatment. Temporary and final abutment selection and design of restorations with current all-ceramic material systems will also be discussed.

Goal:

Anticipate the challenges of implant treatment in order to manage your patients esthetic expectations of the restoration and to avoid unintended consequences.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify features of an esthetic smile with respect to tooth dimensions, gingival scallop, interproximal height, and edentulous ridge form.
  2. Identify pre-prosthetic treatment options to enhance site preparation for implant placement.
  3. Select optimal provisional restorations and develop proper soft tissue contours for each stage of implant therapy: pre-extraction, post-augmentation, post-implant placement and pre-final restoration.
  4. Select and design optimal implant restorations for single and partial edentulous sites.
